A brand new concept in concerts - instead of just having one or two virtuoso soloists in a concert, we have a whole night of them! This event gives us the chance to showcase some of the awesome talent in Questa Musica and hear some of the most epic and virtuosic music ever written. You can hear the slow movement of the Philip Glass Violin Concerto, part of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, Chaminade's stunning Concertino for Flute, "Gabriel's Oboe" from The Mission, the Elegy for Viola, String Quartet and Orchestra by Herbert Howells, and more, topped off by the finale from the Double Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Brahms. We are expecting this concert to sell out some time before the night itself, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

There will be guided tours available during this time. The school was built in 1904 as a country house for the Ubsdell family. It was first used as a school shortly after the First World War. The building was constructed in a mixture of Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts styles. What is so interesting is that a lot of the original features survive, such as fireplaces, stained glass windows and door furniture.

This year the school is looking at the life of the building during the Second World War. The School has been going to the National Archive at Kew and have been copying the War Diaries of the military units who were stationed in New Milton during the Second World War. They have learned that Ballard House was used as Battalion HQ for the various units in our area. They have discovered that the then Lt General Montgomery visited here in 1940 as did Field Marshal Alan Brooke. It is hoped that some visitors will have memories of Ballard during the war which can be recorded.

Glasgow’s hottest new folk property, five-piece Ímar have created more than a bit of a stir in little over a year since their formation.

Their touring credits already include the opening set at that year’s Cambridge Folk Festival (technically, the band’s first billed gig - a plaudit surely amongst as rare as they come) and headlining a stage at Belgium’s Dranouter Festival just a week later.

With a line-up featuring members of Mànran, RURA, Talisk and Barrule, and a heavyweight collective haul of top prizes – including the 2016 BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, a BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, nine All-Ireland and eight All-Britain titles – the group’s formation embodies a personal reconnection with its members’ formative years, dating back long before their recent camaraderie around Glasgow’s justly celebrated session scene.

It’s been a morbid time for "the country's leading musical satirist" (The Times); he's turned 46 - over the hill by anyone's standards - his personal life is in turmoil, and his childhood heroes are dropping like flies. At times like these, a man feels the Reaper creeping up on him… But is death anything to fear? And is it really the end? (Yes. Yes, it is, sorry!) Mitch confronts his - and YOUR - mortality with hilarious (and tuneful) consequences. Join him! It's time you're not getting back!

Mitch has been a regular on BBC Radio 4's The Now Show for more than a decade and has presented many radio specials. Following on from the success of Mitch Benn Is The 37th Beatle, a further three specials on music icons Bob Dylan, David Bowie and Elvis have recently been broadcast - The Freewheelin’ Mitch Benn, Mitch Benn Is The Fat Pink Duke and Mitch Benn Has Left The Building. He also co-presented with Harry Shearer BBC Radio 2's 'Anatomy Of A Guitar' and presented ‘Spank The Plank' for BBC Radio 4. He is currently working on a 40th anniversary special of Derek & Clive, again for BBC Radio 4.

SATURDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER

ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD

Back on the road again and this time celebrating the 50th anniversary, Bournemouth based Arena Theatre presents Tom Stoppard’s seminal work. Absurd and existential, funny and plain weird, the play expands upon the exploits of the titular two minor characters from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The action takes place mainly ‘in the wings’ of the Bard’s greatest work, with brief appearances of major characters from Hamlet who enact fragments of the original's scenes. Always willing to explore the more challenging plays, Arena Theatre boasts Sir Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, Wolf Hall) and playwright, Jez Butterworth (Jerusalem, The Ferryman, Mojo) as two of their Patrons.
